Licensing

The Horizontal Front is distributed as a digital commons under two licences suited to different kinds of work.

Software — AGPL-3.0-or-later

Unless a file says otherwise, the software in this repository is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 or any later version (AGPL-3.0-or-later). This includes:

• TypeScript and JavaScript source code.
• HTML and CSS used to implement the application.
• Build, test, validation and service-worker code.
• Software configuration and package metadata.

Cultural and documentary works — CC BY-SA 4.0

Unless a file or asset record says otherwise, the project's original non-software material is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC-BY-SA-4.0). This includes:

• Game and episode writing.
• Documentation, governance texts and educational material.
• Original artwork, animation, music and sound.
• Creative episode data whose expressive content is writing or composition rather than software behaviour.

When redistributing or adapting these materials, give appropriate credit to The Horizontal Front contributors, link to the project and licence where practical, and identify material changes. Individual asset records may require more specific attribution.

Boundaries and exceptions

• Third-party dependencies retain their own licences.
• Third-party or commissioned assets retain the licence recorded for each asset; they are not relicensed merely by appearing in this repository.
• Generated and procedurally produced material may be distributed only to the extent that the project has the rights required to do so. Preserve its provenance record.
• Names and other indications of official project identity are addressed by the community identity policy. That policy does not remove permissions granted by the licences above.
• No patent licence or patent application is created by the community identity policy. Patent terms contained in an applicable software licence continue to apply.

When the category of a file is genuinely ambiguous, record an explicit SPDX identifier in that file or its asset-manifest entry rather than guessing.

Contributions

By intentionally submitting a contribution for inclusion, a contributor agrees that it may be distributed under the licence applicable to its category above and represents that they have the necessary rights to contribute it. Contributors retain copyright in their work unless a separate written agreement says otherwise.
