Nobody owns the mattress.

The Commons

The Horizontal Front belongs in the digital commons: freely accessible, open to study and adaptation, and accountable to the people who play and build it.

What makes that materially true

Freedom

The game is free to play. Code uses AGPL-3.0-or-later; original cultural work uses CC BY-SA 4.0.

Privacy

No player tracking, behavioural analytics, advertising profiles or transmission of progress and settings.

Participation

Development happens in public. Players and contributors may propose changes and raise charter concerns.

Access

Static, offline-capable delivery, modest hardware requirements, accessibility settings and translation are design requirements.

Accountability

Funding cannot buy control, access or advantages. Material funding and major expenses must be disclosed.

Anti-enclosure

The canonical project cannot be sold, paywalled or converted into an advertising or data-extraction platform.

The public record

The documents below are maintained alongside the code, proposals and issue tracker in the public GitHub repository.

Honest about where we are

The project is currently maintainer-led, not community-governed by a large membership that does not yet exist. Maintainer authority is constrained by the charter, and the governance process provides a path toward broader stewardship as participation grows.
